On the menu this #FASTFOODFriday: a new EP.

18 September 2015

From "A Motel" to "Hotel", the five-piece act from Nottingham expresses implicitly the changes the band went through ever since their first EP; from composing in one of the boys' room to something bigger, larger, greater; their audience is bigger, the stages on which they play are larger, they are of greater age, and their name is ... shorter! Indeed, formerly named Dog Is Dead, the band is now called D.I.D (for the past year) and many of their fans are confused. When "why" seems to be one of the favourite questions to ask, "because it looks and sounds cool" is the reason I have received in 2014.

But will this shorter name bring them greater success? That's all we can wish for them. And with the feedbacks they received from the main song of their new EP played for the first time on BBC Radio 1, it seems so.

For the past month, following the release of "Fast Food" by the BBC Radio 1 presenter, Huw Stephens, D.I.D have created a competition with their fans: " #FASTFOODFriday ". Simple concept: on Friday, you should eat fast food, take a picture and share it with the band with the hashtag. Each week a gift will be sent from the winner, going from a burger box filled with the new EP, a McDo voucher and mini-burger sweets, to tickets to see them live during their next UK tour. Do no worry, there are consolation prices: eating fast food on Friday, and realising that, no, you are not the only one on Earth unsuccessfully resisting to the pizza, fries and burgers.

But today, Friday September 18th, their fans' fast food Friday will be even more successful: in addition to their now-usual junk food, they will have the chance to listen to the new D.I.D 4-track EP called... Well, yes! 'Fast Food'. Available in CD and vinyl on their brand new website didnotts.com, the digital version can be found on iTunes and gave their most impatient fans a nice tease. Four songs, four different stories, yet the same universe so representative of this British indie band. Along with the now-well-known "Fast Food", which reflects on "the petering out of a relationship" and how "easily we settle for and take what's on offer to satisfy ourselves in the short term" as D.I.D said to ClashMusic, the EP is composed of "Gameplan", "Hotel" and "Big Lie".

Considered by many a 'come back', most of these songs had already been played (or tested?) in a few UK venues in late 2014-2015, and at Truck Festival this summer. Each time, the band seemed apologising for introducing new songs. Each time, they seemed a tiny bit more nervous of being under the spotlight. Each time, the audience's reaction was the same; the warmest welcome was offered to the newbies. By dancing, jumping and trying to sing along some songs to which they did not know the lyrics, the fans managed to put a smile of these five guys' faces. Was it a smile of relief? They are the only ones to know...

The band will be touring in the UK in late-October/early-November with their "Fast Food Tour"; they will play on November 2nd in Oslo (Hackney) in London.
