Made in is a new part of the blog that introduces to you the new talents that are, I believe, worth being known. Talents that are from different parts of the UK, France or Ireland, or elsewhere. Talents that I enjoy listening to, seeing live or whose songs are really great to dance on while I am brushing my teeth; in other words, talents that I think you should be aware of. Thanks to social media and online platforms such as YouTube, people are less afraid to express themselves and their creativity with the world - and yet the places in the industry are quite limited. This is why I think it is everybody's job to help out the people we think are really creative. And today, I would like to introduce you to a great British indie band made in the UK: Coates.
From outer-West London, Coates is composed of drummer and producer Toby Pilcher, bassist and mix engineer, Alex Hatcher, and singer, songwriter and guitarist Oliver Coates; a full range of instruments necessary to give the band this unique sound. The three friends have managed to give the band this amazing and powerful tone making Coates different from any other current British indie band. Fast and slow, strong and powerful and yet with this very soft vibe here and there given by the beauty of the acoustic instruments, their music perfectly plays with many sub-genres of the indie sound. Very energetic, the music that this band produces is new, singular to what inspire them, perfect for the acoustic vibe the trio evolves in; Coates meets my expectations for what a good band should be, both live and on record, on many levels. And this is why they are featured on the blog today.
But how to be inspired to create something different, and so fun, delightful and professional? "I'm inspired mostly by music with good lyrics. For this EP in particular I was inspired by the differing ideas people have of success. One persons view of success is not always the same as another. I find it quite an interesting subject, and I wanted to avoid writing stereotypical love songs," said Oliver Coates when asked for his inspiration.
Releasing their debut EP tomorrow, on Friday 25th September, Coates will also be performing in Spice of Life, in Soho, London that night for their debut headlining show - tickets also available at the door. The EP "Vol. 1" will be released on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and many other platforms. Oliver and his partners in crime will also play on Wednesday at one of my favourite bar/pub/venue of Camden, London: the Monarch.
