A completely unknown world under our feet revealed.

22 October 2014

Taking the first tube. Almost every adult living in a big city has experienced this annoying thing called the first metro. Coming back from a party, a date, a late night at the office, or just going there, first trains of the days are a complete different experience, a parallel world, for their first passengers.

« I am working for a German company. But, today, I am going on holiday
to London. I rarely take the metro that early. It is empty, yet very pleasant. It
seems that everything belongs to us! » Véronique, 55

When travelling at this time of the day, everyone thinks of starting/finishing their nights; well, not everyone. It turns out that, in Paris, there is this one person who has another aim when taking the metro around 6am, and it is to take pictures of the courageous (and tired) passengers.

Premiers Metros - the French for first trains - is the name that Julien B has chosen for his Tumblr in which he exposes the victim of his lens. Immortalising some walks of shame, with the make-up perfectly put on or almost out, some extremely tired men and women is the purpose of his blog.

« I’m on my way to work on Avenue Montaigne. At Chanel. You know
Chanel, don’t you? For a year and a half, I am in charge of welcoming
customers; some are nice when others are unpleasant. And you never
know why they are unpleasant! To be honest, when they are on
Avenue Montaigne, they should be nice, right? » Philippe, 32

Willing to put the light on these passengers ("ces voyageurs matinaux") that only a few people are aware of, Julien B has created a new phenomenon. Indeed, the atmosphere of the first trains is so different in a positive way - and yet so unknown - that the concept of making a French new (and different) version of the well-known Humans of New York has quickly attracted French media on it.

The reason I am in love with concept as Premiers Metros and Humans of New York is because it humanises the society in which we live, the people surrounding us. By only posting a picture and a relevant quote from the person portrayed, it is a sort of online and anonymous therapy consisting in realising that life goes on.

As much as the Humans of New York concept became trendy in the big cities in the world, let's hope that Premiers Metros will quickly become as famous - both in Paris and London.

« I am a waitress in a restaurant. Doing this for 20 years! I’m not gonna
cry - on the contrary. This choice I made has been a real one! I love this
contact with customers, to see their smiles. The restaurant where I am
working is a « tiny » one: 2000 place settings! 2000,
pretty cool, huh? » - Eloïse, 38
