24-hour autumn guide: What to do in London

12 November 2015

When the days start to be shortened, the temperatures lowered and the street coloured, it is the sign that winter is coming. But before having to face the cold, and the overlaying of clothes, peoples favourite season makes its well-waited appearance: autumn. In a colour palette of warm colours, going from yellow to red, orange to brown, once a year, autumn brings a sense of magic to some lucky cities of the world. For instance, London.

The UK capital city, famous for it architecture, history and fashion, put on a coat of happiness and magical colours as soon as September comes to an end. Known for having a not-too-sunny and not-too-warm weather, a lot of tourists enjoy visiting London during summer as much as during the colder seasons. And to please the flux of tourists, as much as Londoners, a lot of activities, events and places are happening all year long. Here are an example of what you could do if you were to spend 24 hours in London.

After grabbing a steaming take-away cup of tea or coffee (or even Pumpkin Spice Latte) on the way, you could start your day by going to Primrose Hill or Hampstead Heath. Both of these parks offer some of London's most amazing views you can find in North London. Breathe in. Breathe out. Enjoy the silence that makes you forget you are in one of Europes busiest city. Enjoy the colours the nature surrounding you offers. And most of all, enjoy the view.

After walking down, you could decide to go to Camden Market and buy yourself a treat. Whether it is a hot-drink or something to eat, you will probably find what you want. Camden Market offers its visitors a collection of stands, which represent the international cuisine.

But if you are not keen on discovering the market in Camden - or after you have visited it, you could be interested by Borough Market. Famous for its appearance in movies, Borough Market is also internationally known for the quality of its fresh products, as well as the large variety of stands. The market also offers a section where you can find some treats.

Another great advantage is its location. Indeed, it is located only a few minutes walk away from Tower Bridge - and the Thames, which could then become a nice walk down the river.

Later that day, after the walk down the Thames and/or the visit of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, you could be interested in a little bit of fun. And at this time of the year, there is nothing better than ice skating. Both of the ice rings in Somerset House and in front of the Natural History Museum open in November. The location you are choosing then depends on future activities: would you rather have the choice between three free-entry museums to visit? Or do some see-sighting and walk in front of Buckingham Palace?

In any case, the day should then finish with a visit of Hyde Park, one of Londons biggest and quietest parks. It offers visitors a place where colours are such in harmony together that every inch of the park looks like a painting. Hyde Park also offers cute touch of wild life, and an important presence of the royal family (with Kensington Palace and a imposing gold-statue of Prince Albert).

Hyde Park is a park that you can visit by walking, on a Santander Cycles bike or simply on a pedalo. Whatever you are looking for in a park, you are likely to find it in this park, where you can find many place to take a break and drink or eat (or both) and exchange, as well as even quieter place to think and relax.

From November 20th, Hyde Park will welcome one more time Winter Wonderland, a Christmas fare that the majority of Londoners are looking forward to. A sort of magical land within the busy city. A place to be.

There are obviously many more things that one can do in London, these are just examples of what can be done in 24 hours in autumn. Covent Garden and its Christmas decorations, Oxford Street and Regent Street and their stores - perfect for Christmas shopping - Harrods and its Christmas windows. And as the Christmas spirit rhymes with November here in London, you will be able to enjoy two seasons in one by coming now.
