This Is My England. "This is my England" can be an expression that everyone living in England can relate to when expressing their love for the country. We all have different habits, we all have favourite cities and places to go to, to move into or just to visit. The UK is such a multi-cultural country - and nation - that every person in the world could potentially find the perfect place to grow old - and be happy! The entire world became finally aware of that fact in 2012 thanks to the Olympic Games based in London. British people welcomed everyone with a wave of happiness and passion for creating a beautiful image of their country - yet so often associated to rain. This is what Maven Fiction did with their song 'This Is My England'.
Maven Fiction is an indie-pop band based in York and created in late 2011 by singer and guitarist Aaron Ward, and his long-time friend Joe Mitchell, who plays the piano and synths. The duo originally met at primary school in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and decided to combine their talents - and make music together - once they finished their education. This led to the release of their patriotic, piano driven pop song "This is my England".
The song gave them the opportunity to fulfill their dream as performers; it opened them the doors of many venues in the UK. But they did not stop their musical journey to the boarders of their native country. They took their instruments along with their talents and flew to New York where a venue was waiting, the name of the band written by the entrance. When they came back, following the advice of Grammy and Ivor Novello Award winner, songwriter and producer Steve Robston, Maven Fiction ended their tour to hit back the studio. There, the then-2-piece band has now been joined by bassist Tom Cutforth and drummer Jon Dawes to record new songs that are part of a future release.
"Can I Keep You" is the name of the brand-new track they released on their YouTube channel. By taking time off from touring to concentrate on the creation part of the job, they have managed to create a new sound to their band. A sort of more indie-pop follow-up to 'This Is My England', their dynamic has evolved to become more energetic and powerful. Maven Fiction is currently working on a single version of "Can I Keep You", which should be out soon, along with its music video. Hopefully, this would announce the band's return on the roads. And I cannot wait to see back live!
