- Happy International Women's Day -

08 March 2015

On 8th March, each year, is the International Women's Day, a day that is often misunderstood for "women's superiority" kind of day. But International Women's Day is not a day when the dishes are made by men while women stay in bed, waiting for their breakfast and a bouquet of flowers. Well, it can happen if you have a boyfriend who wants to do so, but it doesn't have to be like that. So, in fact, what do we celebrate on this day?

  • Of course, we celebrate women. We celebrate the women of the past who gave us the present that we have, who fought for a brighter future, our present. We celebrate the women of our present. We also celebrate the women of tomorrow, that future generation, born or not yet, who we need to give a better world to.

  • On Women's Day we also celebrate the women of influence who speak for those whose voices cannot be heard, or not as loud. UN Ambassador (UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson and her #HeForShe campaign for example), actors and actresses, singers, editors, journalists, bloggers, etc. Anyone who tries to make their voices be heard.

  • Also are celebrated the feminists. Feminism is fighting for gender equality. Women equal to men, and men equal to women. This is a movement, a cause that affects each and everyone of us. A feminist can be a man or a woman. This is not a woman's word, this is a societal word. This a word that has no pre-assigned gender; this is a word we can all associate with, a word that can define the way we act in society. That's why on the International Women's Day we celebrate the men fighting for the gender equality as much as women who accepts that it is most of the time better to act like Merida from Brave, who fights for what she believes in and her independence, rather than Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, who is waiting for her Prince to arrive in her life to start living her life.

  • We also celebrate everyone and anyone who wants to live behind them a better society for the future generation of girls - in the media and in the everyday life.

  • On International Women's Day, we also celebrate the women who have decided that they love their life the way it is now and therefore decided not to be part of the gender equality movement which is growing more and more everyday.

  • On International Women's Day, we celebrate anyone who is happy to know that the International Men's Day is on 9th November.
