- Super Bowl Halftime Show -

06 February 2015

This year's half-time show does not avoid the bad habit I have of watching it a day later. I have to wait for everyone to talk about it, to post it all over social media for the video to catch my attention. For the purpose of the article, I have to say that I have not read a review on the show, and I have just finished watching it.

The 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show, sponsored by Pepsi, was staged by the American singer Katy Perry. A twelve-minute show, two guests, four changes of clothes, hundreds of dancers and millions of people watching: these are the stats of Perry's performance which was very - too much - childish for such an international event. I highly doubt that she was the best choice for the role. Indeed, after Queen B, she will be the first one will remember as the media team worked perfectly to make sure of that. Both of Perry's and Beyonce's show were enormous - gigantic even. They were what I consider to be the perfect definition of showing off.

After singing her famous songs "Roar" and "Dark Horse", Katy Perry shared the stage with the one and only Lenny Kravitz to perform her first single "I Kissed a Girl". To me, this moment was the only good moment of the entire show. Kravitz gave the audience a great 2-minute performance. His voice was perfect; he showed that sometimes, you need to take a break from the industry - instead of having an album out every other year. Lenny Kravitz presence proved that experience is the key to everything - especially when it comes to music. Even though the harmony between the two voices was extremely good, I believe that she should have avoid acting like Miley Cyrus with some very-embarrassing dance moves.

After wondering why this colourful singer, whose audience is usually composed of young adults, was performing for the huge events for which the audience is quite older, I finally understood it. I finally got the reason why she was screaming in the microphone by having a flashback on my American History classes - and by reading her biography. Katy Perry is one of the current most patriotic artist you can find in the US, especially with her two songs "California Gurls" and "Fireworks", her final song of the show.

In the end, the show was good and very entertaining, but the image of the Super Bowl halftime show has changed with this performance. It was too naive, too incoherent - between scenes -, too different from the former halftime shows; it was just too much.

But after all, what do I know about these things. I am just a French girl living in the UK who has never been to the US.
